That’s right, after a year long forced sabbatical (oven in our old place never got above 200 degrees) I’m back in action on the amateur baking circle, and I’ve never been more excited!
This weekend was the first session in the return and to ease into it I made a simple lemon poppyseed angle food cake, simple right. I have to admit I was a bit rusty and frantic, but after a spell I could feel myself getting back into the swing of it!
All in all the results were, ok. Not quite as lemony as I’d have liked, it’s a tricky ingredient since it smells SO strong when you’re mixing it in, you’re sure the outcome is going to taste like biting directly into a lemon, but it takes quite a bit to have it come through in the end. Next time I need to pump up the flavors a little more, but the bake was good, I still have my eyebrows and didn’t burn down our house, so an overall win. Not something I’ll be taking into work to flaunt my talents, but for a first session back in the game I’m happy.
Now it’s practice practice practice, after all I’m in charge of my Grandpa’s 95th birthday cake when the whole family comes to town in October to celebrate, but more on that later, for now I’m off to the kitchen!
